Leonora High (WA) needs support to participate in INDIGI HACK (SYD)

$966 of $20,000 raised

Leonora is a relatively isolated town and many of the students don’t get the opportunity to travel outside of the goldfields to participate in activities that build their understanding of the world and their sense of belonging.

Wangkatja is the main language group and INDIGI HACK is an extraordinary opportunity for a group of our students to find solutions to sustaining the language using STEM. Most of the students have not been outside of WA, the students will get to experience a big exciting city, meet students from around the country, work in an environment where they will be supported to build their digital skills by experts and finally to represent their school and bring back their knowledge to share with other students and community members. This initiative could develop into the students running a community ‘language café’ supported by the school and community members.

We are looking to cover the cost of sending six of our students (male and female from primary and secondary) and two supervising staff (as per Department of Education policy). The cost includes flights from Leonora to Perth return, Perth to Sydney return, accommodation at the Centre for Indigenous Excellence during the Sydney stay, accommodation in Perth on return due to the restricted flights into Leonora, taxi fares to and from locations and food costs.
The total cost of this event is $20000

Please help us give these students an opportunity of a lifetime.
