HELP US CREATE A VIRTUAL KUKU-YALANJI CLASSROOM FOR OUR KIDS

$0 of $6,000 raised

Without our language we don’t have an identity and I created this fundraiser to help connect our kids with Kuku-Yalanji language speakers to they can continue our Yalanji language and culture into the future.

Course Overview

The Kuku-Yalanji language is a very ancient language and it’s a cultural tradition to pass on the language orally but we know everyone can’t make to Yalanji country.

We know a lot of Yalanji live abroad and for many different reasons and understand that they have little access to their language and culture. We want to develop this virtual language course to breakdown the geo-barriers to afford the opportunity for Yalanji youth to learn their mother tongue.

This course is designed so you can learn your Kuku-Yalanji language from your own home and digital device. Over a course of 10 weeks each Monday our Yalanji trainers will virtually connect with you to guide you in Kuku-Yalanji.
Each week you will learn new words and phrases and also connect and share stories with other Yalanji youth.

Each week we will provide weekly resources and every week we will give out a prize to the kids who have learnt new Kuku-Yalanji words and phrases.

On completion of the course you will get a certificate which will enable you to go to the next level our Kuku-Yalanji language program.

Who are the teachers?

We have various Kuku-Yalanji language trainers to guide you kids in speaking Yalanji on a daily basis. Our trainers have years of experience working with youth to keep them engaged and learning.

Who should attend?

This language course is targeted at Yalanji kids and through the program we will provide useful language resources and tips to ensure your kids are speaking in their mother tongue everyday.

Course Outcome:

1. Level One Kuku-Yalanji Language Certificate.
2. Increase in Kuku-Yalanji language words and phrases.
3. A deeper connection with Yalanji language and culture.
4. An understanding of Yalanji protocols and principles.
5. An understanding of significant stories and history of the Yalanji nation.
6. Connection to other Yalanji community members and other youth online.
7. Continuation of the Kuku-Yalanji language and culture.

This course is vital to the continuation of Yalanji language and culture and we need your support to make this virtual course possible. This is also not just a language lesson this is a way for our Yalanji youth to also connect and lay the foundation for cultural continuity.
